Peribit Enables Resurgens Orthopaedics To Serve 30% Greater Patient Load; Improve Application Performance With Existing Network
Leading Medical Practice Achieves LAN-Like Performance for Key Practice Management and E-Mail Applications While Reducing Costs
Santa Clara, Calif. – December 15, 2004 - Peribit Networks, the leader in application delivery over the WAN, today announced that Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics, the second-largest orthopedic medical practice in the United States, is deploying Peribit Sequence Reducers to dramatically improve the performance of applications traversing the WAN, which has enabled the organization to serve and process a 30 percent greater patient load with its existing WAN infrastructure. Resurgens Orthopaedics spans 20 facilities in the greater Atlanta area, serves more than 350,000 patients per year, and employs more than 80 physicians and over 700 support employees. The group relies on a Frame Relay WAN to support e-mailed diagnostic reports as well as a practice management system that handles billing, scheduling, and other mission critical applications.
According to Vinnie Greaves, chief technology officer of Resurgens Orthopaedics, the IT team considered WAN acceleration solutions from other vendors but ultimately was sold on Peribit’s 30-day free trial, the outstanding performance delivered immediately by the equipment, and the fully-integrated benefits of the PeriSphere architecture. “PeriSphere integrates all the core functions of compression, sequence caching, latency reduction, bandwidth management, path optimization, and visibility tools representing a compelling value proposition,” Greaves said.
“Prior to installing Peribit, we had some sites where it took two or three minutes to open an e-mail with MRI reports attached,” Greaves added. “This was beginning to impact willingness to rely on automated systems and severely hamper productivity. Peribit’s Sequence Reducers immediately reduced network traffic an average of 80 percent, and remote users that had faced long delays in e-mail and practice management application response times suddenly experienced LAN-like performance resulting in significant improvements in overall productivity.”
Deploying new applications over its existing WAN has proven to be another major benefit that Resurgens has realized since installing Peribit Sequence Reducers, including the ability to distribute scanned images of benefits reports and other valuable documents and attachments between headquarters and branch offices.
Eliminating Dismal Performance Makes Room for New Apps; Creates Hard ROI
Many of the group’s offices were experiencing dismal performance over 64-Kbps and 128-Kbps WAN links due to rapid patient growth and the emergence of bandwidth-intensive traffic from its practice management applications and e-mail. In addition, Resurgens’ WAN service contract had one year to go and upgrading existing link performance would have more than doubled costs. Peribit eliminated performance issues at a fraction of the cost of a WAN upgrade.
Calculating a hard dollar return on investment, Resurgens has determined that the Peribit solution will pay for itself within seven months compared against the cost of upgrading its Frame Relay links. Once Resurgens decided to deploy the Peribit solution, its IT team handled the installation at 20 sites within two days, thanks to Peribit’s plug-and-play installation.
“In health care as well as other industries, optimizing application performance has a positive and direct impact on productivity, customer service, and reducing IT costs,” said Mike Banic, vice president of corporate marketing with Peribit Networks. “Peribit Sequence Reducers are the easiest to implement and most cost-effective solution to speeding application performance to make an immediate and significant impact on the broad range of business applications that run over the WAN.”
